Visionary Performing Arts Academy celebrates their 10th year with a performance of “Never Would Have Made It!” on Saturday, June 20th at 6 pm at the Byham Theater, 101 Sixth Street Downtown. The celebration includes youth ages 2 to 18 years old performing tap, jazz, lyrical and other dance styles.

Grand send off for East Lib’s last highrise

This past Sunday, May 17th, the last of East Liberty’s three highrise apartment buildings came down! The 20 story building was imploded at 9 am by the Titan Company. Watch the video of the highrise going down on youtube!

Future plans for the sight include a major department retailer.

5801 Bryant Street Groundbreaking

Join Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, Senator Jim Ferlo, Highland Park Community Development Corporation, East Liberty Development, Inc and other East End Partners for the groundbreaking ceremony for 5801 Bryant Street this Friday, May 15 at 2:30 pm at the corner of Bryant Street and N. St. Clair Street.

This investment in Highland Park will mean a new restaurant for Bryant Street’s growing business district, as well as loft apartments on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the building.

Herb Plant Sale!

The Western Pennsylvania Herb Society will have an herb plant sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 23 outside of Trader Joe’s, at 6343 Penn Ave. in East Liberty.

Hundreds of herbs, from the unusual to the popular, will be for sale, including Bay Laurel Trees, herb of the year for 2009. Also available are herbal gifts and the Herb Society of America’s Essential Guide to Growing and Cooking with Herbs Cookbook. Members of the society will be present to answer questions.
